I'm a huge fan of the first two films. But this one sucked. It lacked everything the first film had. The first two films had a good script, cool three-dimensional characters, and Steven Spielberg.
It begins with a couple (Macy and Leoni) hiring Dr. Alan Grant to give them a tour of Jurassic Park. They land on the island and Alan Grant soon figures out that the couple's son is deserted on this dinosaur-infested island. So the airplane gets totaled by a dinosaur and they are now stuck on the island, looking for the boy. The dinosaurs figure out there are humans among them and the feast begins.
This movie has some cool dinosaur chase sequences, intense moments, and the regular dinosaurs sinking their teeth into people. It could be a really good be movie. But for being the third installment of the "Jurassic Park" series, this movie sucked.
First of all, the movie is way to short. There's constant action every ten seconds (which isn't all that bad) but I would have really of liked to have seen some character development like in the first two films. I actually really want to care for these characters as they're being ripped into shreds. A good thing about the constant action is that the film is almost never boring. That's kind of a plus.
They managed to bring Sam Neill back. And managed to get a couple of other A-list stars. Sam Neill gives a pretty good performance in this film. He really is the only character that I was fully interested in. I really didn't care for the mother/father/son thing. They could've been eaten for all I cared. William H. Macy and Tea Leoni are pretty convincing as scared parents trying to get their son back. For some reason, I didn't really care for the boy actor. Don't know why...
I didn't care for the plot or characters that much so all I had to look forward to was seeing the people get chomped up. The film really worked for me there but not anywhere else. I don't know why they brought Laura Dern's character back. She was only in like one scene and a second of another scene. Why didn't they put her in the whole movie?
What I want to know is where I can buy a phone like that. That cell phone gets thrown around, gobbled up by a dinosaur, and crapped out. Then they make a phone call on it. Wow. What was Joe Johnston thinking.
I was really looking forward to an action-packed, long adventure ride. There could have been a whole lot more of action and intense dinosaur scenes, like the first and second one. Beware, if you're going to think you're about to watch a film like the first two...keep on moving.
