In Flanders Field - post author Don

Poppy FlowerIn Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

– John McCrae

John McCrae’s words and the centenary of my Grandfather’s death (KIA) inspired me to write “Beneath The Poppy Fields” my screenplay about the Royal Engineer Tunnellers, which I have now adapted to book.
The ultimate sacrifice and displays of utter courage that I discovered during my research for this will live with me forever.

This is one of the most beautiful poems that I have ever heard and I even memorized it. I was even lucky enough to travel over to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landing and visited “Flanders Field” and the emotion was thick and I. couldn’t help belong brought to tears as the ceremony went on.

These sacrifices need to be remembered ALWAYS no matter if there are any veterans of said war still alive we, as a PEOPLE need to REMEMBER World War I and World War II as well as the causes of the wars so they never happen again on this scale of a true “World War”.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SERVED AND SACRIFICED AND OPENED THE DOORS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO SERVE THEIR RESPECTIVE COUNTRY WHEN CALLED UPON.
