June 28, 2004 - On the Radio Scripts and Transcripts page, thanks to M for the heads up and education. You can read "...an episode of the obscure 1947-8 CBS radio series "Doorway to Life," a Peabody Award-winning anthology devoted to tales of childhood psychological problems. Real-life cases are chosen by a panel of experts and then turned into scripts by Virginia Mullen and William Alland. Bill Johnstone, who was once the voice of "The Shadow," plays the series' solemn omniscient commentator who shows up after every other scene to explain what's REALLY going on in the characters' minds and to drive home the moral of the story with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. It's kind of like "Reefer Madness" -- only this is "Unhappy Childhood Madness" instead. (Other titles in this series include: "The Story of Liz -- A Girl Who Wanted To Commit Murder" and my personal favorite, "Estelle -- Who Was A Disappointment To Her Mother From The Day She Was Born." Seriously.)"
