My emails don’t seem to be going through so I thought I’d try to contact you via the comments. Lots of holiday radio stuff for you:

1. Transcript of “My Favorite Wife” from “Screen Directors Playhouse”:

http://www.genericradio.com/show.php?id=1HGH7O9Q9Y

Seven years after Ellen Arden is lost at sea, her husband Nick marries another woman. Irene Dunne and Cary Grant reprise their roles from the 1940 screwball movie (in)version of “Enoch Arden” in this 1950 broadcast.

2. Transcript of “The Shop Around the Corner” from “Screen Guild Theater”:

http://www.genericradio.com/show.php?id=61YWZ0VN8

In a Budapest music shop, two antagonistic employees discover that they are secretly lovestruck pen pals. An extremely abbreviated version of the 1940 film, a classic romantic comedy that was later remade as “You’ve Got Mail.”

3. Not sure if this is a script or a transcript (or even if the date is correct) but here is a “Vic and Sade” Christmas show:

Also downloadable from here:

http://www.genericradio.com/show.php?id=T3FJISC60

In “the small house half-way up in the next block,” Vic and Sade don’t think their son Rush should take money out of the bank to buy Christmas presents. Another thrilling, non-stop adventure from radio’s quietest, quirkiest comedy program.

4. Transcript of “Miracle for Christmas” from “Grand Central Station”:

A doctor who was thought to be dead shows up at a slum hospital on Christmas Eve, the first of several miracles that night. The signature Christmas play of this long-running dramatic anthology.

5. Script of “Silent Night” from “The Songs of Christmas”:

http://www.geocities.com/emruf9/otr/silentnight.html

Dramatization of the origin of the classic song.

6. Script of “Irma Wants Extra Money for Christmas” from “My Friend Irma”:

http://www.genericradio.com/show.php?id=I3UC76H2K

Much to sensible Jane’s dismay, her intelligence-challenged friend Irma attempts to earn extra cash for Christmas by serving a summons on a department store employee. An amusing episode of this long-running sitcom.

7. Transcript of “Three Men” from “Lights Out”:

http://www.geocities.com/emruf6/threemen37.html

Three strangers meet in a train compartment on Christmas night and find one another vaguely familiar. … Broadcast on _Lights Out_ as early as 1935, this Wyllis Cooper fantasy was the series’ signature Christmas play.

8. Transcript of “The Billion Dollar Baby” from “Empire Builders”

http://www.geocities.com/emruf4/otr/emp2.html

“Tonight’s Empire Builders playlet comes to you as a reminder that with all the talk about ‘depression’ there still are people and organizations who are too busy working for good times to wail about hard times.” On the Great Northern Railway’s luxury passenger train, the Empire Builder, a mill owner threatens to cut his payroll in half because of a certain economic downturn (later known as “The Great Depression”). Also on board: an abandoned baby and a social worker who makes a few threats of her own. This 1931 episode of one of radio’s earliest coast-to-coast dramatic series is an odd combination of sentimental comedy and capitalist propaganda.
