I remember really digging the script and that wonderful title when I read it.

I think they done a great job here. Besides looking very professional in terms of aesthetics and performance, its genuinely bizarre, moody, creepy and rather touching at the end.

My one criticism is that I didn’t feel they conveyed the dark humour evident on the page. For example, when the puppet says “He hates mimes!” I had to stifle a laugh because, as was your intention I presume, its meant to be funny in the oddest way. I mean, this is the central catalyst and motivation for the events we’re witnessing here, and its entirely predicated on an inexplicable vendetta against a particular type of performer! It’s as funny as it is crazy and rather genius. However, I felt it was played too straight and po-faced on screen. A bit of acknowledging levity to offset the sheer absurd darkness all around would have gone a long way.

The protracted closing shot is effective and as moving as it was on the page but did they linger too long I wonder, assigning it so much weight and significance that s it became a bit overbearing? I love long takes when they serve a purpose and I appreciate that this was the climactic shot so the filmmaker wanted to leave an impression but as I said, I thought it was a little overkill and well, a bit too earnest.

Anyway, those issues aside, the filmmaker clearly had a vision and stuck to their guns. Overall, I really liked it, you should be very proud.

I watched and read this for the first time…..loved it! Your short reminded me of certain Tales From the Crypt episodes from HBO a few years back. If you are not familiar with them, check them out. They were odd and creepy like this was. Your script is very original and in my opinion I feel it was portrayed perfectly on screen. I couldn’t tell if you wanted it that way from your script but adding the human element to the puppet was an excellent touch- especially the makeup.
I will be looking for more of your work. If you don’t mind could you tell me how you initiated collaboration with the director, producer, etc. You can email me at vchiocchijr@yahoo.com if you don’t want to leave that information here. Both finding and initiating people to collaborate with has been a roadblock for me.

Col. I’m very appreciative of your thoughts here and I agree with everything you said. All in all though, I think they stayed pretty close to the script, which is very unusual for my scripts. Usually, it’s a hit and miss thing to see the films and see if the filmmakers got the script as intended or not. There are some things I would probably have done a little differently if I had filmed this one myself. At first, I wasn’t sure about a human playing the puppet, but now I think that was a great decision.

The title btw, was my husband’s. 🙂

LC, I know!!!! I would never have guessed someone would ever want to film this one. I guess there are people out there actually looking for something different.

Thanks for checking the film and the script out and I appreciate the praise.

I think the use of a human for the puppet works great. As far as originality goes, we often try our best to be original, but in my experience, those scripts are the least likely to get made. Go figure.

I did not initiate any collaboration with the filmmakers. They found the script here at SS and asked me if they could use it. I said yes. That’s usually how it goes for me, then you wait and see how the film turned out. As mentioned above, it’s often a hit or miss thing. IMHO, this time it was a hit.

I’ll give yours a read when I have more time. Right now, I’m trying to read all the 7WC scripts. If I forget, just hit me up.
