The Dark: One For The Road - post author Don

The Dark: One For The Road

The Dark is a six episode anthology series born from both the mind of Michael Cornetto and the February One Week Challenge. Writers were challenged to write, within one week, an eight to 12 page horror, supernatural thriller, fantasy, or science fiction script on the theme of The Darka story that sheds light into the darkest reaches of the mind, into deepest shadows of the imagination and into the blackest void at the end of the universe..

Six stories by six authors were selected. This is the forth episode. (You can watch the earlier episodes here.)

The episode is entitled One For The Road written by Cameron Mitchell

Four people in an isolated Nebraska diner encounter a stranger with a horrifying secret.

Very good story. I enjoyed it very much but I cannot stop to think about the movie Devil by M Night Shamalayan.

I remember when this site only favored scripts by certain writers and now they favor shorts by certain writers. Simplyscripts is no longer “simply scripts” maybe simply favoritism?

Shauna,

All The Dark scripts were written for the Feb 2010 OWC. That’s was community event. These videos are the final result of that script getting selected for production. Each of The Dark scripts are linked to in their respective posts and they are all by different authors. There isn’t any favoritism here.

As far as other videos Don posts they are all link back to scripts that were posted on the site. That means pretty much anyone who has a script on the site and has a video made of it will likely get it posted here if it’s brought to Don’s attention. So not favoritism there either.

Michael, there’s a giant flaw in your statement. It’s not very credible since there are featured scripts on the front page and NOT everyone who submits a script is featured on the main page of the website. So, while I understand why you would defend the rampant favoritism on this site it’s both refutable and false.

Don’t worry I don’t think the favoritism will stop any time soon. Just like all the haters throwing insults my way because I’m stating the truth.

Sigh, I know it was like 5-8 years ago but there was a time when this site wasn’t so nepotistic but sadly that’s precisely what it is now.

Haha, mindless supporters are funny. I have no animosity towards the site since I never submitted to the site. I’m making observations and the more accurate they the more the trolls resort to petty insults. Haha. It’s amusing to laugh at those who are so one-sided.

HOW DARE YOU, SHAUNA!?! Who said you were allowed to even speak. Don’t you know the internet is home to Trolls!?! Silly, reader, if you don’t praise Don then free speech is not allowed!!!!!!

You all are very funny. And while I personally might benefit a bit from the front page – I do work very hard for it.

Shauna, I think you are dead wrong if you think there is any favouritism involved here however. The featured scripts you bring up are nominated by any member of the boards. Any script on the site can be nominated. Perhaps the reason you feel it’s favouritism is because you don’t participate on the boards. I don’t honestly see how you can think your observations are accurate if you only look as deep as this page.

Michael, I hope I didn’t in anyway offend you. Any writer who consistently writes works hard and congratulations on the exposure and getting your short filmed. You are correct that I don’t participate on the boards. I’m a long time reader, first time poster(and with all the negative comments I remember why I waited so long to post). I was making an observation about the way the site’s run not your work, which I cannot judge either way since I have not read it. The site, not you personally, seems to be skewed to promote those that strike Don’s fancy and that seems unfair to me. Again, I’m not a writer, just a reader and not in competition with you or anyone else. So, my opinion, as I have previously stated, is only those that are “liked” “favored” whatever word anyone wants to use, continuously get exposure on the main page. And is there anyway that every script really gets read in entirety? I doubt it.

Shauna,

Not OFFended in any way. I am DEfending the home page but only because I disagree with what you are saying. Not the part where the site reflects Don. That’s because he supplies the content, it would be difficult for this blog not to be skewed to his tastes and that would be true of any blog run and updated by a sole person.

However, I think that Don makes a stellar effort to allow everyone access to the main page. Not only for videos but for scripts as well. For example if you look at the January 2011 blog he spent a week blogging about the scripts that recently came to the site. There’s tons of names on that list that I don’t recognize and I hang out here all the time. That seems pretty fair to me.

Are you suggesting that he blog more unproduced scripts like he did with those? I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t do that too often because it’s a lot of work for him. But if that’s that sort of thing you’re after and the sort of thing that would convince you there isn’t favourtism at play here, then I’ll have a chat with him about it (even though it’s likely he’s reading these comments).

Every six months or so somebody who doesn’t have a clue about the thriving community of writers “behind the curtain” on this website shows up to bitch about favoritism or whatever.

They are completely uninformed about Don and what he hopes his site would represent to the great, unwashed hoards of unproduced writers out there — and they will always deny having some agenda — but nobody really believes that.

Bending over backwards to appease some tinker-head like Shauna is a stupid waste of time.

Well written, wonderfully paced, and at times unnervingly intense! I haven’t enjoyed a short screenplay like this in a while. I do agree with (Jeffrey) about it reminding you of the film Devil (although I haven’t seen it…I have read/researched it a bit). I think Mr. Mitchell, however, did a great job! It’s hard to capture someone’s attention with a limited amount of time, and he did it very well!

Michael, variety is the spice of life. If the same writer(s) or genre is consistently displayed on the main page it speaks to favoritism. If just by voicing my thoughts I get attacked by idiots like bert well, that also supports the argument that the site is not “simply scripts” but “simply some scripts” and that’s what I’ve been saying for these last few posts. Thank you for at least hearing me, since it shows that while the majority of comments are fanatical trolls who refuse to even consider an outside point of view that not everyone is as ignorant.
